Hearts of Iron 3 is a continuing from the Hearts of Iron strategy series. These grand strategy series are set in World War II. Hearts of Iron III is set between 1936 and 1948. This 3rd volume has all the features of the first 2 games, but also it includes many new options and improvements. One of its main features is a huge map with more than 10,000 provinces to conquer and fight across. The first step is choosing a country to play as, either major players like Russia, Germany, and the United States or Poland, Norway, and even Costa Rica. The game is supposed to be realistic, so the goal isn't to conquer the whole map, but there are more specific goals.
